Vacation Bible School

This week we are enjoying VBS at our church. The theme is "The Incredible Race"
We are learning great bible verses, eating super snacks, playing fun games, seeing a hilarious puppet show and hearing an interesting bible story.
Miles is in the 1st grade group with Elizabeth as his team leader/helper.
Eric is helping out in the Rec. area.
Caroline is in the 5th/6th grade group, and is also doing part of the missions moment.
My group (Miles' too) had 15 the first day and 18 the 2nd day.
70% of the group is boys and the other 30% is girls. So you know what happens when you have around 12 energetic 7 year-olds!
It has been a blessing to our family, our church and our community in being able to be a witness for the Lord!

Bethany Home Auxiliary Program

Today was our local nursing home's monthly auxiliary program which we were apart of.
Our family, and 3 of our friends gave the program.
First we(just our family) sang two songs.
"Stepping in the Light" and "Heaven came down"
Then Micah Waugh, our head pastor's son and in Eric's grade, recited James chapter 1.
After that, Caroline and Telea and Sophia Peterson played their violins while I accompanied. We did three songs. Then all of us sang "Children of the Heavenly Father"
and "As you go on your way" to close. The residents were blessed by our ministry of music and recitation. And we were blessed because they enjoyed it so much!

One stormy Saturday afternoon.......

This Saturday afternoon was spent at the Stucky Family reunion. (The Stucky's are Mom's side of the family)
It was held in Inman, KS at their local park. Once everybody had gathered, we shared a meal of sloppy joes, chips, potato salad, baked beans, fruit and relishes with a variety of appetizing cookies for dessert.
Everyone chatted while the wind started to come up. It had been 95 degrees when we got there and was 69 degrees when we left. In past years it has been sunny and hot. Today it was cool and windy.
The kids enjoyed a rollicking game of water balloons and water guns after dinner.
We all packed up around 7:30 when it started to sprinkle outside. Almost all of the Stucky clan was there, including part of the Alabama group!! We missed a few but enjoyed all that could make it. Isn't family a blessing!

The laden food table....Yum!
This is a little movie of Susanna swinging in the park......

These three pictures following this are of Susanna. She walked in as I was working on the other posts with this hat on. I couldn't resist taking a picture of her!

The Fabulous Fourth!

America, America, God shed His grace on thee! And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea!

After a yummy jelly coffeecake early Friday morning, Elizabeth left for work. She has been working for the past three years for a man who sells fireworks. (See picture)
The rest of the family got ready for the day. Around 4:00 p.m. our friends came over to celebrate. After enjoying a dinner of hamburgers, baked beans, and potato salad, with homemade ice cream and brownies for dessert, the kids were ready to start shooting fireworks. They had already went and bought some from Elizabeth's work. What a variety!
Everybody got to choose which ones they wanted!

Elizabeth got back home from work around 8:30 p.m....with 2 more bags of fireworks!
Were those kids ever excited! We ended our night around 10:30 but around town fireworks continued to go off, which made it a little hard to sleep.

But, we all had a wonderful day celebrating our independence!

The girls decided on a hen and a fountain!

Those sunny days of summer

Susanna and Elizabeth had a wonderful time of splashing in the sun on Sunday afternoon.
Caroline recently bought Susanna a "ducky" pool from the local thrift shop.
She has been kind of scared of that big yellow thing, but yesterday we filled it with some water and got in! Susanna cried a little at first but she finally got used to it and even sat down!
As you can see in the pictures we were a little of a tight fit! But otherwise it was a terrific time enjoying the beautiful outdoors!

In this picture Susanna has to close her eyes because the sun was so bright!

For He's a Jolly Good Fellow.........

Happy Father's Day!
We recently celebrated the special event of Father's Day......We are so blessed to have a wonderful father!
To start off OUR Dad's day we attended church where he had to help during the service due to a pastor on vacation.....
After a great worship time, he came home to enjoy a delicious dinner of steak, baked potatoes, fried okra, layer salad, and bread.
Miles got to take Dad to the Sno Cone Place, which was special for him.
Later we had dessert of ice cream sundaes (very appropriate) with Eliazbeth's homemade fudge sauce! Is your mouth watering yet?!?!
We had rented a movie about Harry S. Truman, so we watched it in the afternoon.

Over all, the day was filled with thankfulness to the Lord for giving us such a superb dad!

Beckman Biking

The Beckman Biking Adventure, Sunday, June 8, 2008.

Here is the pedal by pedal report.....

Two summers ago the city of Lindsborg made the Valkommen Trail. We children have been up and down the whole trail many times, but Mom has only gone a few, and Dad had never gone. So, we all geared up to go last night. The sky was overcast with limited humidity which made the early evening ride much more desirable. Dad rode with Susanna behind him. Mom rode Eric's bike. Caroline, Miles and I rode on our own bikes while Eric rode an extra bike we have on hand. The Trail is 2.5 miles round trip. Once you have gone about a three-fourths of a mile or so, their is a "fork" in the trail. We usually go left because of the bridge. When you go on the left side you can cross over the Smoky Valley River via a bridge. After going on the bridge you can circle around, cross over another bridge and get back on the trail. So, we started heading back towards home. On the way we stopped at the sno cone shop. "Tropical Sno" is a local favorite all summer long! The flavor of the week was "Melonberry." Dad was brave enough to try it. Miles chose "Jayhawk", Caroline got "Swede", Eric got "Cherry Limeade" and I got "Mountain Splash Berry". Dad shared with Susanna. Mom decided to have a taste of each one!! After our refreshing treat, we biked directly home since the mosquitoes were seemingly attracted to our sticky fingers!

It was a memorable time spent together and a wonderful ending to our weekend!

Welcome!!!!!

June Greetings!
Welcome to the Beckman Blog. This is our first post!
We thought this would be a great family project to record what is going on in our lives. We hope you, as our dear family and treasured friends, enjoy the random reflections we share with you.

Following are a few memorable moments we have recently experienced.
Enjoy the photos!

Susanna Playing

Susanna loves playing with her dollies. She especially likes holding them by the neck and patting them on the back!

Mud Slide

Getting ready to go down the hill one more time! WHEE! We were all a mess of muddy clay and water!

This is our mud slide. Notice the "crystal clear" water at the bottom?
